GG regularly engages in human service and community impact initiatives and projects. The amount of good we do in the lives of our most vulnerable citizens is immeasurable. The additional value is how these experiences impact our youth.
Teaching kids to serve can have significant impact on their personal development. Through GG, we intentionally expose youth to the power of meeting the needs of others in crisis. It is commonly known that narcissism is a pervasive characteristic in our society. In her book Generation Me, Jean Twenge provides research based insight into how and younger generations are becoming less empathetic towards others in crisis. But all experts agree that key to developing caring, compassionate and kind youth is by exposing them to and engaging them in human service projects.
GG Impact Initiatives
Coats of Compassion
Imagine going through winter without a coat. For most of us, this isn’t imaginable. But for thousands of children, this is a lived reality. That’s why GG annually sponsors the Coats of Compassion project. Through this effort, we serve between 3,000 and 5,000 kids. We are grateful for the community partners and supporters who help make this possible.
In 2019, Grammy Winning artist, Kirk Whalum, gave a concert to raise support for coats. It was so inspiring. Major sponsors included, The Houston Texans Foundation, HEB Foods, Kaylin Harr, Attorney Ricky Anderson, and Ernest Walker, General Manager at KTSU 90.9FM.
Toys of Hope
Each Christmas Season, GG partners with other non profits to secure and toys to thousands of under-resourced children. We focus on kids in shelters, as well as those who live in impoverished circumstances. “A new toy at Christmas puts a smile on a child’s face and puts hope in their hearts.” -James Dixon, Founder, Good Gang USA
We couldn’t do this without the support of generous people in our community. Some of these include, Attorney Letitia Quinones, Attorney Michael Harris, Jacquelyn Aluotto, RBRW Foundation, and always out main sponsor is The Community Of Faith Church. This year, we are proud to have new partners, Craig and Stephanie Howard, Bayou Place Ballroom in Downtown Houston, Dineta Frazier, The Morgan Frazier Foundation, and Courtney Johnson Rose, the Chairwoman of Greater Houston Business Chamber Foundation.
Shoes of Hope
Partnering with Samaritans Feet, Inc, we help provide shoes for thousands of children on an annual basis. We normally give free shoes to underprivileged kids in the summer before starting back to school. The psychological and emotional effect a new pair of shoes has on a child retiring to school is huge.
